Fantasy Tudor Style House

Description

Learn the advanced techniques of using soft gingerbread cookies and edible structural supports to create a tudor style house with cantilevered detached room, movable hinged window and door, curved roof, gelatine and isomalt glass and landscaping with herb shrubs and trees.

Students will roll, cut, bake, trim and seal the base walls, and work on the door and window hinges before gluing the base. They will be introduced to the concept of “framing” the house, using edible support studs, beams and joists to make cantilever structures and to support several stories above the base. They will learn how to make super clear gelatine glass and how to frame the window and make the casement for the gelatine glass. Students will also learn how to work with curved roofs and mold gingerbread, how to prep window openings before pouring isomalt, and how to prep herbs to use as shrubs, plants and trees for landscaping purposes.

  • Metal ruler with hand grip, 12”
  • Mechanical pencil
  • New 1/2” and 1/4” flat brushes, one flat #0 brush and one round liner 0 brush (buy it on Amazon)
  • Extruder (buy it on Amazon)
  • Carpenter square, 12”
  • Small level 
  • Clay tools (buy it on Amazon)
  • Window mold (buy it on Amazon)


Items to be provided by the host for students to use during class only:


  • Large fondant rolling pin
  • Pizza cutter
  • Craft knife with new blade (pointed)
  • Wooden cutting board- 12 x 12” x 1⁄2” board, covered in green or brown fondant
  • Piping bags (3, one for each colour) with tips# 5 and 3
  • Small isomalt pouring cup
  • Silicone mat (no bigger than 10” x 16”, for pouring isomalt)
  • Piping gel in a piping bag with coupler and tip PME#0
  • Scissors

About Beatriz Muller

Beatriz Muller is a Certified Master Sugar Artist and a gingerbread architect and engineer. From her workshop in Ontario, Canada, she has been running Cakes by Beatriz for almost 20 years. During the holiday season, Beatriz and her staff called "Gingerneers" are dedicated to creating custom-order cookie art and intricate gingerbread buildings and structures. Beatriz's style is very clean and precise, with delicate and intricate embroidery and royal icing details. It is inspired by the visual arts, architecture, and beautiful ornamental designs that are created around the world. Her work has won multiple awards including first, second, and third at the National Gingerbread House Competition in North Carolina. She is also a winner of Food Network’s Holiday Gingerbread Showdown and The Big Bake. In 2021, Beatriz won first place in the first virtual edition of Julia M. Usher’s Cookie Art Competition™ and, in 2020, she was nominated as a cookie finalist in the American Cake Awards. Her work has been featured in multiple blogs and magazines, and she has had many appearances on TV networks throughout the years. In 2022, Beatriz’s work debuted on the big screen when she was commissioned by Discovery+ to make six gingerbread pieces for the movie "A Gingerbread Christmas."
